CLANZ first emerged in 1998 as the Clinical Leaders Association of New Zealand - a national network of like-minded health professionals who believed there was great potential for collaboration and system improvement.

Over time, the themes have broadened to include deeper issues of compassion and caring, and also efforts to involve whole communities in improving health status, including community injury prevention.

This website now supports several parallel streams of work. The name, CLANZ, can stand for many things including community, compassion, complexity, clinical, leaders, leadership, and learning. That ambiguity reflects the true nature of our complex world and represents a shift away from linear thinking.
